Evaluation of common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) response under high temperature conditions
Main Article Content
Abstract
Response of different genotypes from INIFAT Gene Bank to high temperature was studied. The experiment was conducted on Red Lixiviated Ferralitic soil at INIFAT´s experimental areas in non-optimum sowing dates and 13 genotypes, including three commercial varieties was studied. The plant response was predicted by math modeling of germination and growth, evaluating plant phenology. Accession 'P 3289' showed the highest germination percentage at 9 days after sowing (das). Likewise, the three commercial varieties exhibited germination percentages above 95 % at 16 das, including accession 'P 3334' which reached the highest biomass values at 28 and 36 days. Accessions 'P 3306', 'P 3334', 'P 3337', 'P 3785' and the commercial variety 'Velazco Largo' showed the most favorable response at high temperatures. Accessions studied exhibited an inverse significant dependence among plant height at 44 days and the reproductive development. These results could be used to designing strategies to face climate change in bean production areas and to search for new genotypes tolerant to high temperatures.
