Characterization of the edaphic fauna and the physical and chemical state of the soils and substrates, in the Urban Agriculture of Boyeros municipality
Main Article Content
Abstract
The sustainability of the production systems depends, fundamentally, on the development, restoration and maintenance of the physical, chemical and biological conditions regulated to a large extent by the activity of the organisms favored by the management actions that are carried out. Taking into account the intensive exploitation that takes place in the organoponicos and the intensive orchards, the edaphic fauna was used as a biological indicator of the level of degradation of the soils and substrates in these systems, together with the physical and chemical evaluation of the same. These evaluations were carried out under the actual production conditions, in the municipality of Boyeros. Samples were taken for the analysis of the meso and the edaphic macrofauna, as well as for the study of the density of the soil, real density, total porosity, pH, organic matter, electrical conductivity, among other properties. The results obtained highlight the novelty of faunal studies in substrates under organophone conditions. They also show the different levels of degradation of the soils and substrates studied, determined by their management. It was concluded that the characterization of the edaphic fauna as well as the use of the Detritivorous/Non-detritivorous and Oribatida/Astigmata indices of the same, together with the physical and chemical properties, allow to assess the quality of the soils and substrates. Criteria are provided about management practices to promote biological activity and therefore contribute to the health and fertility of soils and substrates in Urban Agriculture.
